TROUBLED rail operator GNER is not expected to shed any additional jobs over the next 12 months, the Government has announced.
Railways minister Tom Harris told York MP Hugh Bayley any major changes to services or jobs under GNER's new "management agreement" would have to be approved by his department.
That agreement will run for at least a year, while fresh bids for GNER's franchise are considered.
Speaking in the House of Commons, Mr Harris said: "We do not expect any such major changes to take place before the new contractor takes over.
"Job cuts that may have already been negotiated and agreed by the unions will remain unaffected and will be a matter for GNER management and the unions."
Meanwhile, Conservative transport spokesman Chris Grayling criticised the Government for awarding the franchise to GNER in the first place.

perhaps they could train ticket office staff to be a bit more competant? For example: the £8 cheap day return to Leeds with student railcard starts from 9.30 and NOT from 10 o clock, as every person in the York ticket office seems to think. Get some decent staff in there. get announcers who speak clearly as well whilst you're at it!
