A PROLIFIC best-selling author from York who had more than 350 books published has died, aged 80.
Charles Whiting, of St Olave's Road, York, who wrote an average of ten books a year over 40 years, died yesterday, after suffering from renal failure.
The York-born writer, whose best-sellers included his books in The Dogs of War series, is survived by his wife, Gill, and son, Julian, who both live in York.
The author had been in the process of completing book deals in Eastern Europe and Russia before he died.
"Even though he was in his dotage, he was still working hard and finishing books off - he wasn't exactly in retirement," said Rupert Smith, of D.H. Smith and Son, in Easingwold, one of Mr Whiting's publishers.
