TWO people have been taken to hospital after an early-morning minibus crash on an icy road near York as temperatures dropped sharply across North Yorkshire.
The accident, which involved nine passengers, happened on the A166 near Garrowby Hill at 4.48am today when the bus, which is believed to have skidded off the road after hitting a patch of black ice, span off the road and landed on its side in a hedgerow.
Fire crews from Driffield and Hull were called to the scene, where they found seven of the people aboard the bus had managed to free themselves but one woman and one man were still trapped.
The man, who was driving the minibus, had to be cut out of the wreckage. He was taken to hospital together with the injured woman, both suffering from broken bones.
