Have your say on Elvington mast plans

VILLAGERS are being urged to pen their objections to City of York Council to show "the strength of feeling" against a proposed 50-metre mast for Elvington.

Parish councillors have lodged their opposition to Yorkshire Water's bid to install a wind monitoring mast at its water treatment plant at Elvington. And they are now appealing to residents to follow suit.

If approved, the mast will monitor the speed, direction and quantity of wind to determine whether a wind turbine would be viable for the area. A separate planning application would have to be submitted for a turbine.

Council chairman Ian Bailey said: "We hope very much that individual residents will write individual letters of objection to show the strength of feeling.

"While everyone is supportive of environmental issues and natural generation of energy, we consider it completely inappropriate to have masts close to residential communities."

Councillors' key objections include the "excessive visual impact on the whole village", and the proposed mast's proximity to residents.

I support wind power, but the proposed location of this mast is far too close to residential areas.

I think perhaps the residents of Elvington should be more concerned about the accident potential being caused by parking outside the primary school on the road leading to the Hull road! This is far more hazardous to health than any wind monitoring mast!

The NIMBYS at Elvington would still complain if it was in thye country side because it might spoil their view

I have a wonderful photo of Paul Windross at Elvington Airfield!
Yes, most of the people in Elvington are NIMBY'S, but not all of us.
What about the extra traffic that will be generated during the summer, when York Maze opens in it's new location~?

I am somewhat surprised that a mast of such height 150 meters should be even considered near this airfield, Whose brainstorm was this?

I note that the residents of Elvington are keeping quiet about my comments about the potentially lethal parking outside the primary school!

I hope the mast will have red lights on to warn aircraft when they start flying into Elvington.

With regards to the comments about the parking outside the school. Every school has parents parking outside when dropping their children off. Due to the school covering many village around Elvington it is hardly surprising that people have to use their cars when the only alternative is walking a few miles to school every day. Maybe people should be more concerned about the heavy traffic in Elvington rather than a mast been put up but the most dangerous thing on Elvington by far is the number of HGV’s hurtling through the village at all hours totally ignoring the speed limits. Now that it is far more hazardous to health than a few parked cars!

A lot of the cars parked at the school are people who live IN the village, not from miles away. Nothing will be done about it, because the Police like it "It slows the traffic down"!!

It 50 metres Butler, not 150.

The cars to which I am referring are parked not on the main road but in the left hand turn by the school. It is impossible to see people or oncoming vehicles when turning left there.Vehicles are parked not just at dropping off times.
