The king of clubs

LAUGHING, joking and enjoying a convivial drink with friends, here is the future King of England nightclubbing in York.

This snap of Prince William enjoying himself in The Gallery, in Clifford Street, was captured by a reader of The Press during the Prince's tour of the city nightspots.

We revealed last week how Wills had visited the city for a night away from his training as a pilot at nearby RAF Linton-on-Ouse.

During his whistle-stop tour on Wednesday night, the Prince dined at Saffron Desi in York's Micklegate, popped in for a drink at Revolution Bar and finished the night in The Gallery.

Since coming to the area he has also taken in a flick at Clifton Moor's Vue Cinema.

Bit rude taking a picture of someone without their permission. Just because he is a royal doesn't mean he is public property.

Leave the poor lad alone.

He's already proved he's not stuck up by turning down offers of clearing VIP rooms etc just for him.

So as a return favour the least we can do is not stick a camera in his face every time he moves.

I'm sure now he is based at Linton he'll be out and about in York more offen, the novelty will wear off.

Why does it matter, leave him alone, look at what press intrusion did to the lads mother.

I agree with the other posters, particularly i am the stig.
The guy's not asking (or wanting it would seem) any preferential treatment, just wants to do his own thing with his friends - like we all do.
Leave him alone.

I know, the paper should just leave the bloke alone, I mean, we have host of A list people in and around the city every night! Erm… o yeah, maybe not, it’s just usually the chavs!!!

A list or Z list, they are entitled to private lives just like the rest of us.

When he's doing public appearances etc.. we are perfectly entitled to pictures and autographs, but after work as it were, privacy should be respected.

The thing is, the paper has to sell papers, having a picture of you or I in there, nobody would buy, and nobody would read. But its Willy, people buy, people read, and people ‘comment’ on it like you. Get the picture??

I agree to an extent, the paper has to sell copies to get money to survive.

But its this bit that annoys me.

The press is encouraging us to stick cameras in his face.

There are only so many photographers that can follow him on a night out in clubs etc... but he cant escape the general public.

Yeah, that’s a fair point. Can’t imagine the paper paying big $$$ anyway for photos!!!

Im no great fan of William, and think the waste of taxpayers money teaching him to fly is a disgrace, but for the press to virtually ask the public to stalk him is disgusting. He is a human being after all.

The majority of these comments are correct 'leave the lad alone' - the press are irresponsible asking people if they see him out and about to contact them - isn't that what contributed to his mothers death? - at least when he does become king he will likely to have been in touch with the ordinary people of our nation.

I agree, quite right M-W-A-V!

Being in touch is what the Royals have been so heavily criticised for. So now he's being in touch with the military, he's been slated for that too!?

Leave him alone.

Our future King is also a current member of the armed forces. In the present climate, people following him around could well be regarded as terrorists and shot. I believe it is irresponsible for the Press to encourage this.

I know the press really struggles for things to write - we all remember the story about the man having to cut his own toenails but asking people to stalk him is really taking the mick.

If he climbed the Minster, painted blue, singing god bless my grandma, I still couldn't care less about him, his mother, his father or any other member of his family. Just like he doesn't give two hoots about me, my mum, dad, goldfish etc. Oh the hilarity of his night out! The only thing worth watching will be the sad sad slappers hurling themselves at him hoping to be Queen Chanelle-innit of Acomb.

That would be why he never went there then!

Like many others,I saw him in The Gallery and thought he was a "Lookalike". Gave him a playful slap on the back too. Now I realize that it was only the next likely King! Potentially my sovereign!!
To paraphrase The Simpsons, it's the last time I'll slap my Willie around.

Slightly off topic, I like the fact he chooses to mingle with the everyday people.

I have abit more respect for him now, none of the other royals, even in there youth would have gone to a regular nightclub.

And the fact he turned down having the VIP lounge all for himself and his mates shows he's on the level.

The others should follow his example, they could fully win the nations support back.

People seem to relate to William more as he's so much like Diana
The others should follow his example, they could fully win the nations support back.

Most of the others are stuck up snobs who don't deserve our respect and it wouldn't matter what they did to change, I will never have any respect for them.

I dont think he does though, he probably had a team of security to get people out of his way. In the report about him going for a curry, it was said that people who wanted autographs were politely told no by his security.

According to that story he had one guard with him, and who approaches someone for an autograph while they are eating, thats just plain rude. No wonder he said no, and at least he said it politely to.

My mates was in the Gallery that evening and he was on the regular dance floor with everyone else, there was no security forming a protective ring around him or anything.

pickle, york says...
2:32pm Mon 11 Feb 08

He didn't only have one guard with him that night, there was a few which were in the curry house and the gallery. Its natural that some people would ask for an autograph and he would be used to it - I'm sure he wouldn't think its rude, its to be expected when the future king is spotted.

But by doing one he opens the flood gates.

That person calls and says I've just got Will's autpgraph, and in no time at all he's got a que, and they'll all be saying

"well, you signed his, whats wrong with me"

Its best to smile polite and decline when your out in private with friends.

Good god, leave him alone. It's bad enough that the Press needs York residents to do their job for him but they're asking them to become stalkerazzi. It's pathetic that the Press is throwing its knickers onto the stage like this. Have some dignity, please.
