HE'S been ferrying passengers around the city for almost half a century - but now York's longest-serving bus driver has got behind the wheel for the final time.
Ken Usher is looking forward to retirement after spending the last 46 years as a driver with First York and the company's previous guises, during which time he has taken countless fares and travelled along just about every bus route in the city.
The father-of-two from Acomb, who celebrated his 65th birthday this week days after making his final journey along the Number 6 Clifton Moor-Osbaldwick route, said: "I'll miss my workmates and the passengers I've met down the years, but the one thing I won't miss is having to watch the clock all the time.
"Although bus-driving was always something I fancied doing, I didn't know when I started I'd be here so long. But I've enjoyed it so much - I must have done to have kept doing it for 46 years."
