A MOTORIST has died after the car he was driving left a main road in North Yorkshire and hit a brick wall.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the accident, which happened shortly before 5.50am today on the A61 near Ripley.

The carriageway has been closed in both directions since police arrived at the scene, causing traffic chaos during the morning rush hour.

The 32-year-old male driver, who is from the Harrogate area, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: "The vehicle, a silver Vauxhall, was travelling towards Harrogate when it left the road and collided with a brick wall approximately five metres prior to the junction with Nidd Lane."

Anyone who witnessed the collision or has any information is asked to phone TC Stuart Holden on 0845 6060247.

Do you mean a stage production with singers & dancers? - or a review?
Agree there seem to be many more single vehicle incidents recently. Very inconsiderate to other road users they are too. Very sorry for the chap involved but unless it was a mechanical failure, it would appear to have been his own stupid fault. Perhaps it's the muppet season?
