Pension blow to man who deliberately drove at cars

A long-serving RAF man's pension plans suffered a £60,000 drop because he bumped into cars on the outskirts of York, the city's crown court heard.

Drivers witnessed a catalogue of erratic driving by Jason Reid, 36, in the evening of October 14, prosecutor Rob Galley said.

At one stage, Reid deliberately hit the rear of another car, causing damage, and drove off. Fifteen minutes later, he went into the back of another car in Lowfield Drive, Haxby, gave his details and drove off.

He was arrested in Peterborough four hours later, when he crashed into a roundabout while drink-driving.

Reid, of RAF Marham, King's Lynn, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving in York and failure to stop and failure to report an accident in connection with the ring road collision. He was fined £1,000 and banned from driving for a year.

Peterborough magistrates fined him £400 with £90 costs for the drink-driving and banned him from driving for 16 months in October.

Simon Reevell, Reid's barrister, said his conviction would stop him signing on with the RAF for another ten years.

He had served for 19 years already, but the loss of the extra years would cost him £60,000 in his pension.

Reid had been under great stress at the time of the offences.
