TIME is running out for York women and children who would like to enter our competition to win the coveted number one race badge to wear at next month's Race For Life.

Thousands of women of all ages will be taking part in the event at York Racecourse on Sunday, July 6 - but only one of them will have the chance to pin the prestigious number one to their running top.

We are asking you to write in with your story about why you are taking part in the race.

Have you, or someone you are running for, been diagnosed with cancer?

Are you running in memory of a loved one who has lost their battle with the disease? Are there several generations of your family taking part together?

We want to hear them all.

Readers have until Friday, June 20, to write to us, and when the deadline is up, we and Cancer Research UK will select who will wear the top number.

York Race For Life organiser Jenny Key said: "Everyone who takes part has their own reasons for raising money for Cancer Research UK and this competition gives people the opportunity to share their stories and inspire other people to sign up and take part."

York teenager Laura Ward was the lucky winner of last year's race number competition. The 18-year-old, from Burnholme, in York, showed enormous courage by completing the race only weeks after finishing her treatment for thyroid cancer.

To take part in the competition, please write in with your story to Race For Life running numbers competition, Nicola Fifield, The Press, York, 76-86 Walmgate, York, YO1 9YN. Please specify whether you are taking part in the morning race at 10.30am or the afternoon race at 2.30pm.

To enter the race, visit www.raceforlife.org, or phone 0871 641 2275.
