A BUSINESS has stepped in to replace a games console and television used for physiotherapy treatments at York Hospital’s Children’s Centre.

The Press reported how the Children’s Centre was broken into over the weekend with the thieves stealing a Nintendo Wii and flat screen television which was used to play the games on.

Jill Crampton, the matron for children’s services, said the goods had been bought using charitable donations and they would have to reapply to see if they could be replaced.

But local games retailer Gamestation has stepped in and generously donated a replacement console and TV along with accessories and games.

The Nintendo Wii is used by children at the centre for physiotherapy purposes.

It encourages them to move about in order to control the on-screen characters.

The cost of the console, games, accessories and the flat screen television on which to play the games is around £500.

Nick Smith, assistant store manager for Gamestation in Church Street, York, said: “We were appalled when we heard about the break-in and didn’t want the progress of the children at the centre to be hindered as a result. By providing a new Wii console, the kids will be able to continue their treatments in a fun and interactive environment.”

Jill Crampton said the donation restored her faith in human nature. She said: “We’re really thrilled and it will make such a difference to the physiotherapists and the children who will be able to continue their care.

“A very, very big thank you to them.”
