THIS four-bedroom house comes with the usual fixtures and fittings – with a champagne silver Mercedes Coupe thrown in to boot.

Alistair Shaw and his wife, Eva, are including their beloved Elegance model in with the £325,000 price tag for their detached house as they brave the housing market in their bid to downsize.

It is one of the more unusual stunts being pulled by house vendors in York, but Alistair said they hoped it would be “a unique selling point to attract attention”.

The couple who live on Fylingdales Avenue, off Shipton Road, York, placed an advertisement in The Press this week after deciding to sell their home of six years privately.

“We are offering a free Mercedes Coupe with the house for the successful purchaser,” said Alistair, who runs an educational consultancy company.

“We are downsizing our house and car, even though it is our pride and joy. I shall be sorry to see them go.

“We are very reluctant to leave, but we are in the process of renovating a property in France and the exchange rate has hit us quite hard.

“In the past, we have used estate agents quite happily and we recognise they do a very good job and provide an excellent service.

“But we just thought the Internet has come to the fore and we want to see if we can make it work for us. We are in no particular rush but if the right person comes along”.

Since moving in, the couple have worked hard on enhancing the house, from landscaping the garden to adding a conservatory and they have renewed the kitchen, bathroom and en-suite.

The 2003 diesel Mercedes CLK Coupe, whose market value is thought to be in the region of £12,000, features a mushroom leather interior, does about 45 miles to the gallon and has had two owners from new.
