RADIO York presenter Elly Fiorentini is leaving the city’s evening airwaves as part of another shake-up at the station.

She will now head up its silver anniversary 25 Streets project while Richard Reynolds, who currently hosts the BBC station’s breakfast show, takes over her role in charge of the Drive programme.

The reshuffle starts to take effect on Monday when Adam Tomlinson begins anchoring Radio York’s breakfast coverage, while the new Drive team will slot into place the following Monday.

Meanwhile, Russell Walker, who currently presents the Late Show for the station and its sister operations in Leeds and Sheffield, is to take the helm at its mid-morning show from December 8.

York-born Elly’s switch to 25 Streets – which will take Radio York’s broadcasting bus to various locations around North Yorkshire during a 25-week period – comes after its current project leader moved to the BBC’s Leeds-based Look North programme.

Once the campaign ends, the station says she will work on “an important outreach project in Harrogate to build stronger listenership in the borough”.

It is the second change of on-air personnel at Radio York this year following its decision to axe Barry Parker – who is still employed at the station – as its York City matchday commentator in August and replace him with Alastair Ross.

“We’ve seen a significant increase in the number of people coming to BBC Radio York for our modern approach to local information, grown-up chat and great music,” said station editor Sarah Drummond.

“We’re really lucky to have such a versatile group of broadcasters who know and love North Yorkshire and can move into different positions if there is any internal staff movement to respond to.

“I hope listeners, current and new, will see we always move with the times, responding to the evolving tastes of people in North Yorkshire. We’re managing to retain that feel in our reshuffle.”

Elly Fiorentini was unavailable for comment on her new role.
