Naked cricketers run up cash for changing rooms

A CHARITY calendar featuring pictures of naked cricketers has sold more than a thousand pounds-worth of copies.

Members of Pocklington Cricket Club posed nude for the calendar to help raise £25,000 towards the cost of new changing rooms. Each cricketer’s modesty was protected not by a box, but strategically-placed bats.

Available around Pocklington, the calendars have been selling like hot cakes.

Rachel Sanerivi, girlfriend of first team captain Ian Camwell, said: “Sales have gone really, really well. We had a great night selling them at the Dickensian evening in Pocklington when we were handing out mulled wine and we’re really pleased with the awareness that they have created for the club. People now know that we are actively fundraising and that will continue indefinitely.

“We’ve got some things in the pipeline regarding sponsorship and there are some social events coming up so we’re going to be really busy this year raising money for the new changing rooms as we desperately need them.”

Future events include music nights featuring local bands and possibly an outdoor music afternoon in the summer.

The cricketers are trying to emulate the success of the Calendar Girls and are hoping to raise the £25,000 needed to build a new changing and shower block. At the moment they must walk past an open door to get from the showers back to the lockers. Therefore, if they forget to take a towel with them, everyone in the club bar gets a cheeky view.

As reported in The Press, the pictures of the cricketers were taken over the summer months.

Although the photo-shoot was kept secret there were still a few startled dog-walkers who got an eye-full as they walked past the cricket ground.

The calendars, which are priced at £7.50, are on sale at Danby’s and Forth’s in Pocklington, the town’s branch of Maynews and Langlands Garden Centre, in Shiptonthorpe.
