A ONE-BEDROOM, “semi-derelict” shack will go under the hammer next week and is expected to fetch more than £150,000.

The sale of Whitegate Bungalow near Scarborough has already brought in hundreds of enquiries from potential buyers attracted by the stunning sea views and two acres of land which come with the run-down property.

“It’s the old adage location, location, location,” said Tom Watson of Cundalls estate agents and auctioneers. “If that property was in an unattractive position it wouldn’t be worth half as much. But it is in a couple of acres of land with fantastic south-facing views down the coastline – and it’s on the North York Moors.”

Mr Watson said next week’s auction would be the first time the bungalow had come on to the market in 70 years and interest from potential buyers was high.

“The daughter of the previous owners has put it up for sale,” he said. “Her parents were there for 40 years.

“They lived the good life and were self sufficient.

“This is an absolute one-off and was quite hard to value, but 250 people have asked for details on it so far.”

The location of the bungalow in a National Park means planning options are limited but Mr Watson said the property was ready to live in 365 days a year or would make a good holiday home.

The sale brochure for Whitegate Bungalow describes a property with “vast potential in a stunning location”.

It goes on: “The property comprises a semi-derelict, one-bedroom bungalow requiring full refurbishment and/or redevelopment, a range of timber outbuildings and stables and approximately two acres of grazing land. “ The timber-built house also has running water and electricity. Whitegate Bungalow will be auctioned at the Falcon Inn in the nearby village of Staintondale, next Wednesday.
