FOOTBALL fans have boosted The Press's Guardian Angels Appeal by £130.

A bucket collection was held at the City Of York girl's football League Cup Final to raise vital funds for a new lifesaving high-dependency unit on York Hospital's children's ward.

More than 250 people visited Pocklington Town football ground to watch the teams do battle.

Jo Dyer, coach of the Pocklington Town under-16 girls team, said: "We didn't need to charge an admission fee because we had a sponsor for the day, so we decided to ask for donations to the Guardian Angels Appeal instead. We wanted to support something local and when the unit is up and running, it will benefit a lot of families.

"I've got two children myself and it would be dreadful if they ever needed the facilities, but at least we would know they were there."
