Boxes of goodies are on their way to the homeless thanks to the generosity of students at Tadcaster Grammar School.
Thirty-eight shoeboxes containing items ranging from biscuits and soup to shampoo and books will be given to the residents of the Arc Light Centre, in Union Terrace, York, for Christmas.
“Close links have been formed between the centre and the school,” said Joyce Harrison, head of Year 10 at Tadcaster Grammar. “I am thrilled by the response of the students who have been so generous to those less fortunate than themselves.”
Residents in the centre are helped to regain self-esteem, independence and social skills and are given support to help them move on.
“Next term, we hope it will be possible for some of the residents to come to Tadcaster Grammar School and share their experiences with the students about being homeless,” said Mrs Harrison
