CITY of Hockey Club Ladies I are just one point off the top of the Yorkshire and North East League premier division after a 12-0 thrashing of Ben Rhydding II.

York made a tremendous start, scoring three times in the five minutes through Lucy Barker, Niamh Clements and Lily Rowntree.

The visitors’ ferocious and unrelenting attack continued throughout the whole of the first half as Niamh Clements, Amy Birch, Kate Barker, Ali Couttie and Rowntree struck to bring up a 8-0 half-time lead.

Ben Rhydding regathered in the second half and forced away goalkeeper Cara Mackay into a rare goal-saving block.

York responded through goal number nine, through Lou Bessey, before reaching double figures thanks to Couttie.

A hat-trick strike from Clements and a second from Barker took York to the dozen mark in the dying stages.

York trail leaders Newcastle University I by just a point but boast a better goal difference by a two-goal margin.

Elsewhere in the Ladies game, City of York II lost a nine-goal thriller 5-4 at home to Hull II, with Cora Seth (two), Sarah Rogers and Vicky Skilton on the scoresheet for the hosts.

Rachel Hildreth was City of York III’s sole scorer in their 3-1 defeat to Chesterfield I.

City of York V went down 2-1 to Halifax III. Sarah Davies was the only York player to find the back of the net.

City of York VII battled to a 4-4 draw with Leeds University VI. Lydia Waters bagged two goals for VII, with Becky Westgarth and Harriet Ferris also scoring.

Meanwhile, City of York Men I fell to back-to-back defeats in the Yorkshire and North East League premier division, losing 5-4 to Leeds Adel I.

York made the dream start, moving ahead inside two minutes through Jamie Clarke before Rob Bradley-Consitt doubled their lead.

Leeds cut the gap but the two-goal cushion was restored prior to half time by Alex Cockram.

Adel were terrific after the interval, recovering from 3-1 down to go 4-3 in front. Cockram levelled matters before Leeds found a late winner.

Elsewhere among the Men’s sides, Zak Perryman and Rufus Wordsworth goals saw City of York II topple Sheffield Bankers II 2-1.

City of York III were beaten by the same scoreline against Harrogate II, Alex Stephenson the hosts’ sole scorer.

Murphy Riddell provided the only City of York VII resistance in a 3-1 defeat to Tadcaster Magnets I.

City of York VIII drew 2-2 at Leeds Adel VI thanks to goals from Neil Reader and David Lancaster.
