STRIKER Sean Gorman’s tenth goal of the season was not enough to keep Selby Town’s FA Vase dream alive.
The prolific marksman levelled in the 47th minute after Danny Clarke had given hosts Winterton Rangers an 18th minute lead in the round one tie.
However, Greg Archer struck on 67 minutes to send the reigning Northern Counties East League premier division champions into round two.
Tadcaster Albion also crashed out, losing 5-1 at home to Spennymoor Town to continue their difficult start to the campaign.
Spennymoor were 2-0 up at half-time, with goals from Jamie Clarke and Glen Butterworth.
Clarke added his second on the hour and Carl Beasley also netted before Paul James pulled a goal back for Albion with six minutes remaining. Jason Ainsley’s last minute penalty put the seal on another disappointing afternoon for Paul Marshall’s men.
Scarborough Athletic eased through with a 2-1 victory at Esh Winning.
Harrogate Railway Athletic, who parted company with Dave Morgan in midweek, enjoyed their best result of the season in the FA Trophy.
The Station View side beat visitors FC Halifax Town 2-1 in the preliminary round, with Ben Jones and Nathan Cartman scoring a goal in each half.
Railway are in action again tonight (7.45pm), away to Newcastle Blue Star.
Unbeaten Pickering Town moved into fourth place in the NCEL premier division with a 3-2 win at Maltby Main.
The Pikes trailed 2-0 at the break, with Maltby’s goals coming from Rob Branagan and Daniel Patterson. However, three goals in six minutes turned the game.
Mark Swales netted on 58 minutes and levelled three minutes later.
Former York City midfielder Chaz Wrigley then hit the winner on 64 minutes.
The Pikes could go top if they win at Eccleshill United tomorrow (7.45pm).
Harrogate Town are third in Blue Square North after being held to a 0-0 draw by hosts Stafford.
