FORMER York City marksman Marc Lloyd-Williams was the two-goal hero in one of the most astounding comebacks in football.
Now plying his trade for Porthmadog, he and his Welsh Premier League team-mates were trailing 5-1 to Connah’s Quay Nomads with barely 19 minutes left to the final whistle.
But amazingly, Porthmadog had their day as they triumphed 6-5 with Lloyd-Williams bagging the last two goals, his second and the eventual winner plundered in the fifth minute of stoppage time, when the pocket-sized striker muscled past two defenders to drill the ball home.
Declared an exultant Porthmadog manager Paul Whelan: “To go 5-1 down and pull the game out of the fire shows the tremendous character of the lads.”
Lloyd-Williams’ belting brace took him to 16 goals this season for a Porthmadog team for which he started his Welsh League career in the early 90s.
The 35-year-old joined the Minstermen in 1999, signing from Halifax Town. In all he made 23 full appearances for City with 11 more as substitute, and scored nine goals before he returned to his native Wales.
In Welsh League football, he has now struck a career total of 247 goals in 354 outings, plus another 42 from the bench.
But in his 17 years as a striker, in which he also played in the English League with Stockport County, Lloyd-Williams will never have revelled in such a stunning comeback.

Some old bloke, Manchester says...

Only joking, I suppose he's a bit long in the tooth now, but I do remember a couple of his spectacular long range efforts for City.
I wondered if he was making a come-back recently at Wrexham when I read of a Marc Williams doing very well there (a name he used to use) but it's a different one - not surprising in Wales I suppose.
