TROPHY-COLLECTING teenager Charlotte Austwick completed a prized club treble before making a big impact on the Northern Ladies Championships.

Just days after winning the Pike Hills GC Ladies Championship held over 36 holes for the third consecutive year, Austwick travelled to Cumbria to play in the Northern Ladies Championship at Workington GC.

She excelled in the initial 36-hole event shooting a level 72 gross in the morning and a one-over par 73 in the afternoon for seventh position overall to qualify for the first stage of the match-play format.

Before that a presentation was made for the best team gross and nett scores with Yorkshire, comprising Laura Harvey (Richmond), Kim Crooks (Saltburn) and Ellie Robinson (Middlesbrough), winning the gross prize, and also the nett award through Austwick, Crooks and Megan Garland (Selby). Harrogate GC’s Nikki Dunn won the best gross second round with a four-under 68.

Then in the match-play encounters Austwick was just shaded out of the first round by two holes by Nikki Foster, a Lancashire Counties player recently selected for the England national girls’ team.

Buoyed by her club and county displays, Austwick, whose handicap has been trimmed to 2.1, will be hoping to continue her good form in the English girls’ championship, which will be staged in North Wiltshire at the end of this month.
