Acomb Hockey Club men’s 2nd XI spurned a host of openings to lose 1-0 to Gainsborough IV at Oaklands.
Despite some good work on the right, courtesy of Andy Smith, the home forwards failed to capitalise.
Skipper Paul Yoward forced the visiting ’keeper into a fine save, while defenders Andy Church and joint players of the match, Graham Ibbetson and Steve Piggin, denied the visitors before Gainsborough filched a winner with just two minutes to go.
