A TRIO of teams have sealed promotion with three weeks of the season remaining in the IT Sports Mixed Doubles Tennis League.

Appleton Roebuck confirmed the division ten trophy after winning at main title rivals, David Lloyd. They were led by unbeaten duo Pauline Belt and Paul Dadvar.

Cliffe are bidding to join them after Mary Smith and John Leetham won all three rubbers against David Lloyd and the team added another win over Wilberfoss to climb into third.

Rachel Price and Chris Park were top scorers of the week, winning all three games 11-1 for Alne against Poppleton in division eight to secure promotion.

Pippa Bailey and Dave Pearson then combined to ensure a win at Dunnington.

Tadcaster eased their relegation fears with a win at Poppleton to make the second promotion place all to play for.

Ann Murray and Greg Ashcroft led Dunnington to a win at Sheriff Hutton to stay in the hunt.

Bubwith were the third team to clinch promotion, booking their place in division one for the first time in the club’s history.

Anna Airaksinen and John Longthorp top-scored for Bubwith at Stillington and Liz Bramley and Paul Blackett ensured a win against Civil Service.

York stayed in second after a win against Dunnington, while Copmanthorpe’s Karen Hornby and Graeme Butcher helped their side to a last-gasp win at Civil Service to stay in the frame.

In division one, York are one win closer to retaining the title after a victory against Dunnington.

Wheldrake will be relegated after losing to fellow strugglers Fulford seconds and Castlegarth.

Both Rowntree Park teams top their divisions, with the first team pipping Appleton Roebuck in a winning last round to stay top of division three.

Rufforth are second on games difference despite losing to Fulford, for whom Sean Evans and Dominique Morrissey won 29 games.

Bishopthorpe are the new division four leaders after beating third-placed Heworth, with Fran Critchley and Simon Watson unbeaten.
